It’s hard to believe over a week has passed since I was at High Point Market in North Carolina! I went again with my friend and fellow designer Meredith Heron, from Meredith Heron Design in Toronto. We decided to do “slow market” by staying an extra couple of days so we could really concentrate on finding the perfect pieces for our clients. We also wanted to build relationships with both new and familiar suppliers. I made a point of sitting in every chair, made notes and took pictures of everything I could imagine using on a project. The investment of making this trip allows the designers who attend to raise the calibre of their work. By going to HPMKT, I get first-hand knowledge of what I’m specifying for my clients so that I can create the most personal look for them.
Here are a few of my favourite finds. I was drawn to classic shapes with interesting uses of scale. I looked for sophisticated finishes such as shagreen, silver-leaf, lucite and carved limestone. These are statement pieces that will last the test of time, yet are still very chic and modern.
How amazing would it be to sleep in these D.Porthault sheets? They’re total luxury at about 2K per set! Since this is my day to dream, I thought I would indulge and pick out the style I would dress my bed with. It’s hard to choose, but my favourite is the understated elegance of the Jour de Paris set. The crisp cotton percale with hemstitching detail in white is the perfect backdrop for the ultimate Paris hotel experience. Continuing with the theme of chic Parisian hotel, I fell in love with these Anne Sacks tiles a while ago and have been dreaming about them since. Maybe not what you would traditionally see in a Paris hotel, but I love the artisanal design and watery colour of this particular tile. It’s my version of Parisian chic. I would compliment these tiles with soft white marble floors, polished nickel faucets, vintage light fixtures and white fluffy towels. Jours de ParisAnne Sacks Tile
I don’t know about you, but when I read or see anything about Gwyneth’s glam, chic life, I’m intrigued. I’ve subscribed to her blog ‘goop’ since day one. It’s full of unrealistic fashion, food and lifestyle advice – which I’m a total sucker for. I know it’s all a bit pretentious; but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy, non? I can totally see me sitting at her island as she prepares one of her seemingly effortless meals while I drink cocktails…
You get a taste of what I’m talking about in this Michael Kors x goop collaboration. If you’re like me, you’ll press pause and snoop at her stunning home originally designed by Windsor Smith and get a few good seasonal decorating tips too. Dream!
If you want a taste of celebrity chic, I can help you get that look in your home. Email me and we’ll chat…
xx (pretentious air kisses)
