Posts for portfolio
I have had several requests to see my portfolio lately – which is exciting! However, I am in the process of having my website rebuilt and my old site is now off-line. In the meantime, here are a few pictures and a computer rendering featuring some of our work.
If this whets your appetite and you’re looking to work with a designer in the Kitchener-Waterloo area (or within an hour drive); gives us a call and we’ll be happy to chat with you about our services.
After spending several days with Veronika Miller, the founder of Modenus. I have an even greater appreciation for what she has achieved. She has created and online resource not only for members of the interior design industry, but for those in the general public who have an interest in design.
Who and what is Modenus? The simplistic answer — “Modenus is a comprehensive digital resource for design professionals and design enthusiasts.” They collaborate with top industry leaders and manufacturers and have a keen sense of what is worthy of promoting to the public. It’s a HUGE feat to stay on top of the latest out there and they do this with the greatest of professionalism and creativity. In my opinion, they are rockstars in the design industry.
Here they are in a nutshell:
160 + designer portfolios
15568 products in 12 categories
The latest design info on their blog
I had the privilege of being invited to #BlogTourNYC personally by Veronika and hearing she and her talented daughter (and colleague), Florence, talk about their philosophy behind Modenus. The experience has made me want to stand most enthusiastically behind their company. It’s a digital age, but people who run their business with integrity and passion are still number 1 in my books.
It’s been an exciting month with interesting projects as well as having professional photos taken of some of the past homes we’ve designed for our new website, which will be coming soon! It’s amazing to me how much work goes into a photo shoot. I’m talking a crazy amount of hours and the whole process has to fit into an already busy schedule. There are the initial site visits, emails, style planning, shopping, scheduling, and image planning, which involves preplanning the angles to be taken, lighting, etc. It’s a big deal…and expensive. Here are a few iPhone pictures I took to show you some behind the scenes planning that took place. I like to keep my images clean, interesting and natural; they need to represent the people who live there. Shooting commercial work is a different process, however I like to approach it with the same philosophy: reflect the client who occupies the space and give it a fresh, contemporary edge.
Having a current portfolio is a designer’s calling card. We are the trendsetters, the people who keep classics looking fresh and know when to break the rules but still maintain great design. Designers also are expected to be ahead of the game in both our formal (business-related) and informal (social media) lives and our work needs to reflect that. It’s a lot to juggle, but it’s also exciting to put what you love to do out in the world for others to admire…or critique. You be the judge.
